After Rembrandt(19th century)Self portrait with gorgetOil on canvas, 37 x 28.9 cmProvenance: Private collection, the NetherlandsNote:The original painting, dating from around 1629, is in the collection of Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg. For a long time this was believed to be a copy after the portrait in the collection of Mauritshuis, The Hague. In 1991 art historian Claus Grimm claimed the Nuremberg work to be the original and subsequently the Mauritshuis version a copy.

Extensive research later proved Grimms theory right.
